Many times people want to have spectacular encounters with God’s voice. Others diligently seek to hear God’s audible voice or have angelic visitations. Others feel guilty because they have not had any spectacular encounters with God’s voice in their lives. I have learnt a principle which I hope will help many with this issue.

Principle:The magnitude of God’s manifested power and presence in His voice is usually proportional to the significance of the purpose. I will say it again: the magnitude of the supernatural power and God’s presence associated with the voice of God that you hear is proportional to the significance of the purpose of that voice. In other words, the more critical it is that God wants to convey something to you the more supernatural the voice that speaks to you. Many of us are saying oh why doesn’t God speak to me about my future husband in an audible voice or send an angel. But how critical is that to God’s agenda? If it is not critical to God’s agenda, you are wasting your time, you will not hear the audible voice. He will speak to you in more subtle way. So the significance of the purpose to which He is speaking to, determines the magnitude of His manifest presence in the voice that speaks to you. So some people are waiting for a voice that they will never hear. Because the thing you are looking for is not significant to the agenda of God. Whether you will find your lost purse or not does not save souls does not change God’s agenda. So God is unlikely to send an angel to show you where your purse is.  God does not waste anointing. God does not waste angelic visitation. He does not waste His voice. He has ways to speak to you but whichever way that he speaks to you it is proportional to the significance of the purpose.

If God speaks to you in an audible voice you had better listen because it means there is significance to the thing He is speaking to you about. If God grants you a visitation of angels it tells you that what God is saying so important to his agenda and you need to be very careful on what you do about it.

Mike Bickle says: “When God communicates a purpose and a message to you with dramatic supernatural manifestation then you should know that the Lord is urgent about making it apply in your life, and if necessary he will deal severely with you to make sure you attend to the issues.” To whom much is given, much is required.  If you are given manifestations of the voice of God which are supernatural God holds you to a higher standard, God will deal with you so harshly and so severely. If you doubt me ask Zechariah. He had a visit from the angel who told him that his wife was going to bring forth a son, and he should call his name John and he would prepare for the coming of the Messiah. But Zechariah based on his experience and understanding of biology doubted the angel. And for doubting the voice of the angel, he was struck dumb for nine months. Now tell me you want to hear angels! Do you want your mouth to be sealed? For nine months! So whenever God’s voice is supernatural   it tells you that it is so critical to God’s agenda and God will hold you to a high standard of obeying that voice.

I said to a young lady once, who was waiting for God to speak to her in an audible voice about who to marry, “Go find yourself somebody to marry. I can tell you God is not going to speak with an audible voice. He has already been speaking to you and you were not listening. Don’t expect God to compensate for your deafness with an audible voice.”
